BS”D - We did have some tough times financially but those difficulties were not our primary reason for leaving. Our Sages teach us that our income for the next year is decided during this time between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. It is not location dependent. What is left to us is how we will earn that pre-determined amount. Will we do it honestly, without violating any Torah principles or will we compromise? This means that even in the land of opportunities, as America is called, a Jew could suffer in many ways, financially or otherwise if he knows he belongs in E"Y and refuses to go.

We are not to depend on anyone but HaShem. Anything less is idolatry. We have a high calling to be a light to the nations; no less than total and absolute dependence on HaShem through every good and difficult thing we experience in this life.

Most Olim from America and other countries with high standards of living choose not come to Israel or don't remain because they have difficulties with the idea of living with less than what they are accustomed to. Most Jews from Western nations, especially the US, are not fleeing persecution (at least not yet) thus, they feel they always have the option of going back to what they are used to if things don't work out to their expectations.

The more ideologically motivated oleh who has total emunah knows that no matter how difficult things get in E"Y, this is where they belong regardless. This life is just a narrow bridge to Olam HaBa. Difficulties are tests to strengthen us, not a reason to run. I would say we suffered from poverty of soul, not pocketbook. Becoming shomer mitzvoth has given us the solid grounding we need to endure or overcome whatever difficulties might come our way.

We have seen these principles in operation in our own lives and it is part of why I tell our story with a sense of humor and irony. We left to gain financially, to renew family ties, to feel safe. Each of those reasons has shown themselves to be misguided. Our real life, 3D experiences HaShem have been so clearly directed towards teaching us our mistaken thinking, it's startling to contemplate.

Regarding professions, we both have our ideas. I am confident that as long as we do our part, HaShem will provide for our needs.

Just curious. Do you both have marketable professions that will enable you to support your family here? You should know that most Anglo Olim come with a bundle plus which they have saved over the years (or inherited) since they know they won't have an easy time in the job market. How will you manage when you get here? How can you minimize your risk of not making it a second time?
